  • Hiking Peru’s Colca Canyon

    by Arielle Demchuk

The Colca Canyon is twice as deep as the Grand Canyon in the United States, and a must-see for any visitor to Southern Peru.  There isn’t a ton of detailed information in the guidebooks about how to get to the Colca Canyon or actually do the hike.  Tours can be booked in Arequipa, which is 160 km southeast of the canyon, but if you’re...

  • Overlooking Lisbon: The City’s Best Viewpoints

    by Arielle Demchuk

Lisbon, Portugal is a city of hills.  Buildings perch on slopes, and funicular trams transport the hill-weary up the steep cobblestone alleys.  Naturally, in a coastal city built on hills, there are many amazing views, and the more you ascend, the better the view.

  • London: The Ultimate 6 Day Itinerary, Part 1

    by Arielle Demchuk

While London is a huge city whose sheer number of sites and activities require multiple visits, you can get a lot of the major sightseeing done in a short time if you plan accordingly.  In 2012, my family and I took advantage of a cheap round trip flight deal to London Gatwick Airport, so we flew there for six full days before returning home...

  • The Things You Learn About Yourself While Travelling Solo

    by Arielle Demchuk

Before I went to travel by myself for the first time, people were always shocked I was going at it alone.  “Aren’t you terrified?” “Is that even safe?”  “Won’t you get lonely?”

  • The Inca Trail: How to Command and Conquer the Famous Hike

    by Arielle Demchuk

The truth is, I’ve never been much of an athletic outdoorsman.  At the ripe old age of 22, the longest hike I’d ever been on lasted 4 hours, and I had gone camping precisely twice.  I’m not sure what part of my mind thought that joining a couple of my friends on the Peruvian portion of their South American adventure, specifically with the goal...

Why The Type A Traveller?

Type A often refers to those who are rigidly organized and overprepared - something I tend to be in my personal life and in my travels, and which doesn't always allow for spontaneity.

In an effort to move away from this, I'm trying to be a Type A Traveller who is also Aware, Adventurous, Accepting, and Adaptive (with some obvious planning still thrown in there) and that is how I hope to be in my travels as well as convey on this blog. (Oh - and my name starts with A too!)
